Laryngomalacia

You may have noticed the sound that Ben makes when he breathes in- sort of like a wheeze or a whistle, which he has done since he was born- well, my pediatrician referred him to a pediatric Ear Nose Throat doctor to get a 2nd opinion, and make sure it was nothing. So my mom and I took him in for his appointment yesterday and as it turns out he has a very mild case of laryngomalacia. Laryngomalacia is when there is extra cartilage around the larynyx, and when Ben breathes in that extra cartilage wobbles and results in the sound. The doctor said it should only last until he is 12-18 months, and if he continues to make the sound past 18 months, or the sound gets worse, to bring him back in. But to diagnose him they had to put a scope down his nose, and that was truly awful. :( I am so grateful that it is nothing and we (hopefully) will not have to go back for it! He was such a brave boy though, and I am so proud of him!
